Exporting Transactions

MoneyWell allows you to export your transactions to a standard QIF format for transferring to other apps or between MoneyWell documents. This export format contains your accounts, buckets (categories), and transactions. It will not include favorites or any budgeting information.

You can also copy and paste transactions from MoneyWell to other apps if you want to use a tab-delimited format. This is a great option for copying transaction information to a spreadsheet for sharing with your bookkeeper or accountant.

QIF Export (all accounts):

  1. Select the "All Transactions" in the Source list.
  2. Select the Cash Flow view.
  3. Click the File menu and select Export….
  4. Choose a file name and location, then click Save.
  5. Click Export on the export progress panel.

QIF Export (selected accounts or buckets):

  1. Select the Cash Flow view.
  2. Select one or more accounts or buckets from the Source list.
  3. Click the File menu and select Export….
  4. Choose a file name and location, then click Save.
  5. Make sure that the "Export selected accounts & buckets" option is checked.
  6. Click Export on the export progress panel.

QIF Export (selected transactions):

  1. Select the Cash Flow view.
  2. Select more than one transaction in the list.
  3. Click the File menu and select Export….
  4. Choose a file name and location, then click Save.
  5. Make sure that the "Export selected transactions" option is checked.
  6. Click Export on the export progress panel.

Copy/Paste of Tab-Delimited Transactions:

  1. Select the Cash Flow view.
  2. Select one or more transactions in the list.
  3. Click the Edit menu and select Copy.
  4. Switch to another app and click Paste.

Copy/Paste of Tab-Delimited Report Content:

  1. Select the Reports view.
  2. Select a report to view.
  3. Click the Edit menu and select Copy.
  4. Switch to another app and click Paste.

Report Export to Tab-Delimited File:

  1. Select the Reports view.
  2. Select a report to view.
  3. Click the Export button in the filter bar.
  4. Choose a file name and location, then click Save.

If you are using a spreadsheet app like Numbers or Excel, just select a single cell prior to pasting. Tab-delimited text also works well for text editors and most apps that accept text entry.
